Christel is a storyteller. Behind every abstraction lies a story from a distant land or a moment of extreme beauty closer to home. The colours that evoke the story are applied layer by layer until everything has been told and the painting is ready to begin a new story with the viewer. Christel hopes that her work inspires people and allows them to let their own imagination run free.

Having worked mainly with oil paint, Christel has switched to acrylic paint in order to minimise her ecological footprint. She mainly uses a palette knife and recycled plastic to apply the many layers of paint. The result is colourful, abstract expressionist large-scale work with depth, light and roughness.
​
Recently returned to Belgium, after living for 40 years in The Netherlands, Christel is at crossroads for change in her work: smaller pieces and experimenting with materials.
